Sourcing Merchandiser – Asia Sourcing

(上海)

Job Purpose

Delivers to Clas Ohlson customers by owning the full new development and sourcing process, transferring inspiration briefs, development briefs, and buying requests from stakeholders in Sweden into placed orders that meet customer demand for cost, availability, quality & sustainability.


The role carries dual responsibility:

1. Assortment development & new product creation, driving commercially competitive innovations in string lights, solar lights, and related seasonal categories.

2. Supplier sourcing & supplier development, ensuring a competitive, diversified, and resilient supplier base in China and South/Southeast Asia.

Leads and constantly develops the business, ensuring strong cost performance, product competitiveness, and high performance within the assigned area of responsibility.


Key Responsibilities

1. Supplier Sourcing & Supplier Base Development

• Execute sourcing strategies that secure competitive second sourcing  and multi country options (Asia working experience strongly preferred).

• Maintain strong supplier relationships for product development and production, monitor vendor performance, and drive continuous improvement. 

• Identify, evaluate, and onboard new potential suppliers 


2. Assortment Development & New Product Creation

• Develop new and existing products based on inspiration briefs, development briefs, and buying requests from Sweden. Ensure that new developments meet expectations on function, quality, design, cost, sustainability, and timing. 

• Own the end-to-end  product creation process from concept → supplier sourcing → prototyping → cost modelling → sample approval → order placement.

• Drive supplier led innovation and proactively identify  new product opportunities in string lights, solar lights, and related seasonal ranges.


3. Cost Performance & Fact Based Commercial Excellence

• Create, verify, and challenge cost breakdowns (CBD) with a high degree of analytical rigor.

• Conduct tear down analyses of seasonal lighting products to identify cost drivers and optimization opportunities.

• Use market pricing and shouldcost methodologies to establish  transparent, fair, and competitive costing structures.

• Lead difficult supplier discussions, prioritizing company interest while maintaining necessary working relationships.


4. Cross-Functional  Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Communicate and align with stakeholders in Sweden and IPO offices to ensure assortment demands are understood and delivered, coordinate tasks, resolve issues, support product development and sourcing pipelines. 

• Ensure accurate and timely information flow on project status, quotations, timelines, and supplier performance.


5. Continuous Improvement & Business Follow- Up

• Maintain a constant improvement mindset, analysing business results monthly through KPIs and identifying new opportunities. 

• Improve existing offers by developing suppliers, upgrading products, and testing new materials or processes.

• Ensure ways of working reflect high commercial awareness, strong ethical standards, and long term customer value.


Ability

Technical & Functional Skills

• Strong experience in fact based costing, should cost modeling, tear down analysis, and cost breakdown validation.

• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes & product demands for string lights, solar lighting, and seasonal electrical products.

• Skilled in supplier evaluation, development, and negotiation in China and South/Southeast Asia.

• Competent in assortment development and end-to-end new product creation.

• Able to organize, communicate, and follow up with internal/external stakeholders on quotations, products, and timelines. 

• Familiarity with sustainability, compliance, and quality requirements for lighting products.

• Domestic and regional travel (~30%) to suppliers across China, Vietnam, India, and broader Asia.

• Ability to use AI tool a plus
